The mohua / yellowhead voted 'Bird of the Year 2013'
It's in the path of the monorail.

Just two months ago, the mohua was described by one DOC scientist, Graeme Ayers, as 'being on the cusp of extinction'.

One of its last known habitats is in the Snowden Forest, where Bob Robertson wants to put a monorail - i.e. a train track and maintenance road.

And the critically endangered long-tailed bat roosts in the forest's big old red beech trees.

Not to mention the generations of kiwis who love to tramp, fish and hunt in there.
